| April 27, 1930 | In
this picture you see yourself and every other human being. Conscious
Mind, on the left, our guiding power only recently developed, inside
our skulls, tries to lead us in the right direction. Our animal instincts,
represented by our various relations in the lower animal world, Mr. McCay
shows you pulling in the other direction. Conscious Mind, the good power that men have slowly built up through five hundred thousand years of life on this earth, pulls gently but steadily in one direction. And the animal forces, the monkey habit of imitation, the serpent, the monkey, all the others, with all their power, cannot in the long run pull man back into the depths from which he has slowly risen. |
